Heroes welcome planned for Adrian

ZIZ Sports News…April 27, 2011 – President of the Nevis Amateur Athletic Association Lester Blackett yesterday revealed that a heroes’ welcome is being planned for recent Carifta gold medalist and new record holder in the under 17 javelin event, Adrian Williams of Nevis and his team mate Renika Daniel.

Adrian, who along with Renika Daniel was a part of the Federation’s representative team to the recently concluded meet, shattered the 11 year record for the under 17 javelin throw of 59.38 meters with a decisive throw of 60.15 metres.

His teammate J’Anthon Sillidy took bronze with 55.01m and Denzil St Marthe of St Lucia won silver with 58.91m

Meanwhile, Renika Daniel of Nevis qualified for the World Youth Championships in France in July and the Youth Games in the Isle of Man, Ireland in September. Renika made the finals of the Carifta Games U-17 400m after placing 4th in Heat 1 in a Personal Best of 57.15s, with the 5th best time overall. She later went on to place 8th in 59.30s in the Under 17 Female 400m Finals.

Other results on athletes representing the Federation of St.Kitts and Nevis were:

• Zeon Bass of St. Kitts – Nevis placed 8th in Heat 2 U-17 400m in a possible (to be checked) Personal Best of 52.62s.
• Noha Herbert SKN placed 5th and 14th overall in the U-17 100m Semi-Finals in 12.59s & did not advance
• Torino Samuel of St. Kitts – Nevis won a Bronze medal in the U-20 Male High Jump with 1.85m
• Lestrod Roland (St. Kitts – Nevis) was a finalist in the U-20 200m and placed 6th in 21.82 (w-1.1)
• Aaron Benneire placed 9th in the U-20 Triple Jump with a distance of 13.51m

According to Blackette, the athletes are scheduled to return to the Federation tomorrow Thursday 28th April and a grand welcome reception is being planned for Adrian and Renika when they arrive on Nevis via the ferry service. Plans are being finalized through the Ministry of Sports in collaboration with Minister of Sports, Hon Hensley Daniel and his Permanent Secretary Alsted Pemberton. It is understood that Premier Joseph {Parry will also be a part of the welcoming party as well.

Blackette further indicated that the general public will be notified shortly about the details for the welcome reception for the athletes.
