Historic Community Center Reopens

HonMarcellaLiburdHeadshotD(ZIZ News) — Top government officials and community leaders have welcomed the reopening of the historic Victoria Road Community Center.

The center was officially reopened during a ceremony held last week.

In her address to mark the occasion, the Minister of Social and Community Development, Hon Marcella Liburd said the main purpose of refurbishing the center is to promote the performing arts in St. Kitts.

“You would note that there is a new dance surface because we specifically wanted to have something to show that we want dance to be a priority in terms of use of the center. And so there is a new dance surface as part of the renovations but as I said earlier, it is also used by other persons like for taekwondo and it is also a hurricane shelter,” the minister said.

She said the center will also compliment the new programme introduced by the caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE).

“Just recently, CAPE started a Theatre Arts Programme which CFBC has introduced as well and so this facility will really be the home for those persons under the CAPE programme who are pursuing that Theatre Arts Programme. We are very happy for the programme because it means that we have become much more serious about our art form.”

Minister Liburd said over two hundred persons use the Victoria Road Community Center on a regular basis.

She is now calling on all those persons to properly care for the facility.
