History and Heritage Month Launched

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 31, 2020 (ZIZ News): Every year the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society partners with the Ministries of Culture and Education in organizing History and Heritage Month.

On Thursday a ceremony was held at Matheson House to officially launch the month of activities.

Delivering the featured address at the opening ceremony Minister of Culture Hon. Shawn Richards outlined the importance of the hosting of the History and Heritage Month which begins on February 1st.

Minister Richards said the chosen theme falls in line with the intended goal of displaying the federation’s rich heritage.

During welcome remarks, President of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society Council D. Michael Morton CBE, JP, paid tribute to former president of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society Sir Probyn Innis.

He also called for a moment of silence in remembrance of Sir Probyn who crafted the History and Heritage Month of activities in 2006.

Activities for History and Heritage Month 2020 will include a church service on Sunday, the launch of a Library Book Display and a National Trust Exhibition, a panel discussion, a hike, a Primary School’s quiz and a Cultural Fair and Exhibition.

The month of activities will wrap up On Thursday February 27th with the Sir Probyn Inniss Memorial Lecture 2020 at the UWI Open Campus from 7pm.
