(ZIZ)– A number of wholesome activities have been planned this year as the month of February is being observed in St. Kitts and Nevis as “History and Heritage Month”.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Conserving Our Environmental Heritage” with special reference to plants.

Chairman of the history and heritage month committee, Sir Probyn Inniss explained why they chose this theme.

“What we are hoping we can do is to persuade all of us as citizens, because it is all of our business, to take a careful look at what we can do to become more mindful, to become more caring of our environment and to do all that we can in order to preserve it and conserve it and where possible enhance it,” he said.

In opening the month of activities, Prime Minister, The Right Hon Dr Denzil Douglas said we have much in St Kitts and Nevis to be thankful for, when it comes to the environment.

“Our natural environment, our gift rare and unique. We do not take it for granted, we are keenly aware of its extraordinary value and we are resolute in our own determination to protect and to preserve it,” he said.

The History and Heritage Month of Activities is organized every year by the Brimstone Hill National Park Society, The St Christopher National Trust, The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society, The Departments of Libraries, Culture, and Education, and The UWI Open Campus.
