Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 25, 2019 (ZIZ News): Several calypsonians went head to head on Sunday November 24 for the National Carnival Extempo Competition title at Vibes Beach Bar and Grill, Frigate Bay.

Calypsonians were required to pick a topic from a bag and then were asked to sing a song based on that topic.

The calypsonians were allowed to deliver their performances with wittiness, sarcasm, praise and humour. The rules outlined that there should be no explicit or lewd language used in the performance.

Bad man Polo kicked off the competition with his Extempo piece focusing on the topic “A good politician”.

Jeezy Sparta continued with his section on the topic, “Hairstyles”. Several other calypsonians took centre stage to battle each other on the various topics.

One of the highlights of the evening came from Lord Pain who deliberately fell to the floor and pretended to roll in pain after he selected the topic, “Pain, Sickness or Diseases”.

However, it was Calypso Craig who was crowned the winner overall with a total of 236 points.

Awesome Navigator placed 1st runner up after scoring a total of 215 points.

Musical entertainment was provided by the Legends Band.

Sugar Mas 48 is being celebrated under the theme, “Why Wait, Let’s Celebrate. Sugar Mas 48”.
