Increase in bush fires in St .Kitts

EveretteO’GarroB(ZIZ)– On an almost daily basis, thick gusts of smoke can be seen rising to the sky from at least one village in St .Kitts.

The St Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Department says it is becoming very concerned about the frequent incidents of bush fires.

Acting Fire Chief, Everette O’garro says that in many instances, these fires are started by individuals seeking to clean their lands for residential or farming purposes.

In the wake of these recent fires, the Fire Chief is calling on residents to take the necessary precautions to secure their homes.

Fire Chief O’garro’s comments came in the wake of Monday afternoon’s fire in Sandy Point which threatened at least three neighbouring homes in the area.

The cause of that fire is still under investigations.
