India completes comprehensive victory

CricketFilePhotoE(Sports Page) The West Indies catapulted to a comprehensive innings defeat versus India on day three of the first test match in the ongoing series.

India, resuming from their overnight 354 for 6, went on to be bowled out for 453, just falling one run short of scoring an additional 100 runs.

R. Ashwin went on to secure his 2nd test century—both against the West indies and Rohit Shama looked certain for a double on his debut, when he was trapped lbw to Permaul for 177.

The West Indies would take some heart from the bowling of Shane Shillingford who bowled a marathon 55 overs to capture all of six wickets.

When the West Indies batted a second time, facing a deficit of 219 runs, three of the top batsmen got into the 30’s but none of them managed to go on.

Just as he did in the first innings, an incisive and decisive spell of fast swing bowling from debutant Mohammed Shami, went through the West Indies extended tail like an unstoppable tsunami. He collected a fiver, making it an impressive debut match haul of 9 wickets.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul was left like the proverbial cheese standing alone on a painstaking 31 not out.

West Indies skittled out for just 168 in 54.1 overs.
