BASSETERRE, ST.KITTS, APRIL 26TH 2012 (CUOPM) – With the demand for engineers around the world skyrocketing, St. Kitts and Nevis has begun to focus on the location of an engineering school in St. Kitts and Nevis, run very much along the lines of the several medical schools already operating in the twin-island Federation.

“That is an option that I actively pursued while in India – because even though some individuals, when thinking about the universities based here, think only of the individuals students going to and from classes, or perhaps renting an apartment, the truth is that the stimulative effect of such schools, on many sectors of the economy, is quite significant,” said Prime Minister Douglas during his weekly radio call-in programme on Tuesday.

Dr. Douglas told listeners that expanded educational opportunities for Kittitians and Nevisians have long been a priority for his Government and while in that Asian nation, he also explored the possibility of scholarships being offered to Kittitians and Nevisians, in order for them to have the opportunity to study in India, at an Indian university.

“There is no denying the outstanding capabilities of India in a range of cutting-edge fields, among the areas I explored with prospective business interests, while there, was that of green energy,” said the Prime Minister.
