Inmate says Mothers Forum can help to curb crime

Coming on the heels of the recent spate of shooting deaths on island, and following his interaction with ministers at the recently held national youth forum, inmate at the her majesty’s prison, Patrice Matthew is suggesting a new approach to curb crime and violence.

Matthew says he believes that events such as the national youth forum should be held specifically for mothers and loved ones to share their thoughts and concerns that he says would provide a different perspective.

He said mothers of both the perpetrators and victims are severely affected and should be able to help provide solutions to the issue of crime.

The inmate said he is able to share this advice because of his personal experiences.

St. Kitts recorded a total of 6 homicides in 6 days between Friday February 8 and February 14 2019.

The federal cabinet has since released a statement saying, “we intend to confront this criminality resolutely and shall apply concerted and constant pressure until crime and criminality within our society is brought to heel.”
