Inter-sessional meeting of CARICOM heads

High level regional officials are in St. Kitts for the hosting of the 30 the inter- sessional meeting of the conference of heads of government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Over 150 delegates have registered including at least eight international and regional organizations.

The two day conference got underway on Tuesday with an opening session at the Marriott resort, in which Secretary General Irwin Larocque, Prime Minister of Jamaica and immediate past chairman of CARICOM, Hon. Andrew Holness and Prime Minister of St. Kitts And Nevis and Chairman of CARICOM, Dr. Hon.
Timothy Harris, addressed the gathering ahead of the plenary sessions.

Secretary General Larocque welcomed the delegation to the conference and thanked the government and people for the warm hospitality that has been extended to facilitate discussions.

Immediate past Chairman of CARICOM Prime Minister of Jamaica Hon. Andrew
Holness pledged his country’s commitment to assisting Prime Minister Harris as he settles into the position as chairman.

Referring to his new position as a busy introduction to the chairmanship of
CARICOM, Prime Minister Harris said it has led him to have a greater appreciation for the important position.

He spoke of the importance of working together to ensure the success of the
CARICOM single market and economy.

On Tuesday evening Governor General His Excellency Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton
GCMG, CVO QC JP hosted a welcome reception for the delegates at government house.

Visiting delegates were given the opportunity to savor the federation’s cuisine and other aspects of our cultural heritage including folklore.
