(ZIZ)– Dozens of customs officers on St Kitts today joined the regular congregation of the Zion Moravian Church for worship in recognition of International Customs Day today.

International Customs Day 2014 is being observed under the theme, “Communication: Sharing Information for Better Cooperation.”

Financial Secretary, Hilary Hazel read the official international customs message in which she addressed the theme of communication.

“Customs and Excise Department is a government agency that is tasked with protecting the trade and crime fighting interests in the state and this is done through a myriad of ways. Because of the complexity of the tasks that the department must handle clear and reliable communication is essential,” she said.

A similar church service was also held at the Shiloh Baptist Church on Nevis.

Other activities to mark International Customs Day are visits to selected primary and secondary schools in the Federation on Monday; a staff exchange between the department on St Kitts and the one on Nevis on Tuesday; a panel discussion at 8:00 p.m. on ZIZ television on Wednesday and an Open Day on Thursday.
