International Participants Activations | Youth Manifesto

In the lead-up to Global Goals Week, we are kindly asking each IP to nominate one young person to share to camera a short message for global leaders on how to make the world a better place.

The outcome of these messages will become part of Expo 2020’s manifesto for the future, incorporated into the Expo Declaration and legacy products, and forming Expo’s own ‘to-do list’ for the world, and may be featured on Al Wasl during Global Goals Week. As a next step, we are asking you to nominate a youth Ambassador for your pavilions, to address the questions outlined below:

  1. If you could ask your country’s leader to do one thing to make the world a safe and happy place, what would it be?
  2. What would you do if you were the leader of your country?
  3. What type of world do you want to live in by 2030?
  4. If you had one hope for the world, what would it be?

The selected young person can either choose to answer all the questions, or only one. The remarks should be brief (ideally up to two lines per question, with a pause between each question/answer), and each should include mention of the question, ie “If I were leader of my country, I would…”.

Selecting your young person

  • Youth representatives should be aged between 5-18
  • They can come from the Expo ecosystem (children of their pavilion teams, nationals visiting their pavilions) or non-expo ecosystem (change-making children who actively advocate in fields related to SDGs; children of though leaders/activists/policymakers in fields related to SDGs)

Content Capture

  • Option 1: Should your youth representative be from the Expo ecosystem, filming will take place from 18 to 23 December inside or outside the IP Pavilions.
  • Option 2: Should the youth representative not be on the Expo site, International Participants can submit their own footage, provided it meets the technical specifications provided.

In order to fully reflect the amazing diversity of our World Expo, and the perspectives of all 192 nations, we ask that the youth representative addresses the questions in their native tongue. We will use subtitles to provide English translation, and we would be grateful if you could provide this text so that we ensure your message is captured faithfully.

Visual and Technical Requirements

  • Young person should wear a shirt in one of those colours and/or the SDG pin (colours below for reference)
  • Video orientation: landscape
  • Young person should be positioned in the frame to fit inside the two middle vertical lines (as per attached example)

Next Steps

  • 15 December: deadline for International Participants to confirm participation (nominee name, filmed on site or submit a video) to melisa.atassi@expo2020.ae
  • 23 December: deadline for International Participants to submit the video (if not filmed on site) to melisa.atassi@expo2020.ae
  • 18 to 23 December: the filming in front of IP pavilion for representative who will be on Expo-site will take place from 18 to 23 December inside or outside the IP Pavilions. Expo 2020 team will share filming times with International Participants in advance.
