Jahzara Claxton Helps West Indies Complete Zimbabwe Sweep
St. Kitts and Nevis’ Jahzara Claxton made 38 runs and took two wickets as the West Indies Women beat Zimbabwe Women by eight wickets in the third T20 International in Harare, completing a 3-0 series sweep.
West Indies finished on 143 for 2, chasing Zimbabwe’s 142 for 6, with 18 balls to spare. Captain Stafanie Taylor was unbeaten on 64 off 39 balls, including 11 fours. She also took 2 for 8 from her four overs.
Taylor became only the fourth woman to score 3,000 runs and take 100 wickets in T20 Internationals. She reached her 100th wicket with her second ball of the match, stumping Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano.
Claxton, a Kittitian, played a major part in the chase. She made 38 off 37 balls and shared a 71-run second-wicket stand with Taylor, which kept the visitors in control. She was bowled by Beloved Biza, the only West Indies wicket to fall in the middle overs.
Claxton also contributed with the ball, finishing with 2 for 35 as Zimbabwe tried to build a big total.
Zimbabwe chose to bat first. Opener Kelis Ndhlovu scored 63 off 48 balls, with six fours and three sixes, for her fifth T20I half-century. Zimbabwe reached 40 for 1 in the powerplay before Taylor came into the attack. She also trapped Chiedza Dhururu lbw.
Ndhlovu and Christine Mutasa added 40 off 27 balls for the fifth wicket, helping Zimbabwe score 41 for 1 in the last four overs. Mutasa finished unbeaten on 24. West Indies had the edge in the middle overs (7 to 16), scoring 85 for the loss of Claxton, while Zimbabwe made only 61 for 3.
