Jewel of the Seas makes first call, twelve ships visit next week

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 3RD 2011 (CUOPM) – Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Jewel of the Seas made its inaugural call to St. Kitts on Thursday.

The 90,000-ton vessel, which has a passenger capacity of 2,500, arrived from Barbados with 2,070 passengers and a crew of 860. Most of the passengers disembarked and went on sight-seeing tours via taxis and the St. Kitts Scenic Railway, shopping, sailing, snorkeling, hiking and sea and sun bathing.
The arrival of the Jewel of the Seas brings to four the number of cruise ships visiting this week and the number of passengers to 7,693. The 3,050 passenger capacity Carnival Victory docks on Friday. On Wednesday, the 400-passenger capacity Silver Whisper arrived from Dominica with 309 passengers and a crew of 287. The 3,100 passenger capacity Emerald Princess arrived from St. Thomas with 3,061 passengers and a crew of 1191 before sailing for Barbados.
Twelve ships – 11 in St. Kitts and one in Nevis are scheduled for next week with an estimated 25,600 passengers. Three ships berth on Monday 7th and Friday 11th; two ships on Thursday 10th and Saturday 12th and one ship each on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th. The 868-passenger capacity Black Watch, the 2,680-passenger capacity Carnival Miracle and the 2,430-passenger capacity Celebrity Summit arrive on Monday 7th November. The 540-passenger capacity Silver Spirit anchors on Tuesday; the 3,597-passenger capacity Azura docks on Wednesday; the 2,224-passenger capacity Norwegian Dawn and the 2,556-passenger capacity Arcadia berth on Thursday 10th. The three cruise ships in port on Friday 11th are the 3,050-passenger capacity Carnival Victory; the 1,627-passenger capacity Maasdam and the 2,850-passenger capacity Celebrity Silhouette, which will be making its inaugural call, the first of six for the 2011/2012 cruise ship season.
Rounding out the week on Saturday 12th will be the 3,100-passenger-capacity Ventura which docks at Port Zante and the 112-passneger capacity Sea Dream which anchors in Charlestown. Some 84,000 cruise passengers are expected this month from 38 cruise ship calls. An estimated 625,000 passengers are expected between October 2011 and September 2012.
