Kiddy Cricket Camp Underway
Dozens of youth athletes gathered at the Edgar Gilbert Recreational Ground on Monday morning for the official start of The 2018 CWI/Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket Summer Camp.
A brief opening ceremony was held to welcome the campers and explain the format of the exercise.
Territorial development officer for the Leeward Islands Cricket Board, Percy Daniel noted that the camp provides development opportunities for persons beyond the young cricketers.
The camp is sponsored by Scotiabank and country manager, Gordon Julien said the bank is happy to support the initiative and noted that top players got their start at the Kiddy cricket camp.
Minister of Sport the hon Shawn Richards offered words of encouragement to the participants and spoke of the importance of perseverance in achieving one’s dreams.
The camp runs until Friday and will feature field work as well as classroom sessions covering topics such as injury prevention, personal hygiene & development, and the use of illegal substances.
