Kieran Powell joins illustrious group

ZIZ Sports…Nov 16, 2012 — Nevisian and West Indian opening batsman Kieran Powell joined an illustrious band of players who have scored a century in each innings of a test match. This as the action on the penultimate day of an intriguing first test match West Indies versus Bangladesh continued.

The day started with a much improved home crowd showing up at the ground and they were not disappointed as the home team went on to surpass the 527 made by the West indies with some scintillating stroke play, led by Nasir Hossain and Madmudullah who both failed to secure centuries when set.

When the West Indies team batted a second time, Chris Gayle again went early after striking a huge six but Powell found a good ally in Darren Bravo and the two went about putting the team on a good footing. Powell had his slices of luck as he was put down at slip when only on 17. The very next delivery he played it back in the air towards the same bowler but probably fell just short.

Thereafter he took control and played some terrific shots all around the ground in company with Bravo who played some masterly shots of his own.

Powell moved from 99 to 103 with a delightful steer through third man for four. This made him only the 9th West Indian batsman to accomplish the feat of scoring centuries in each innings of a test match.

Bravo later perished on 76 and then the Windies team wobbled with a flurry of wickets towards the end of the day.
