Kittitian Author Launches Pregnancy Loss Survival Guide
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts; 15 November 2021 — On Tuesday 23 November 2021, Attorney and Author Jihan A. Williams will officially launch her first published book “Lifting the Weight of Miscarriage: Healing Insights on Pregnancy Loss for Sufferers and the People Around Us”. In what readers have described as a “true survival guide for miscarriage sufferers”, the book chronicles Williams’ journey into the first six months after the loss of her baby, six and a half months into her first pregnancy in 2020.
While providing vivid and honest insight into the physical, emotional, and spiritual effects of miscarriage, the book promotes healing and offers realistic, practical recommendations that help other sufferers and the people around them navigate the loss with more compassion and understanding.
Williams said, “When I lost my son, I tried to find resources to help me that were from Caribbean authors, but my search came up empty. We hardly talk about pregnancy loss, yet statistics show that one in every four pregnancies ends in miscarriage. This suggests that so many women and men are suffering silently but resources that can help them heal either did not exist or are not well known. It is my hope that my book helps fill some of the large informational and support gaps surrounding this unfortunate life experience.”
Since the book was released in October 2021, it has received endorsing support from a wide array of persons across the Caribbean including doctors, counsellors, miscarriage sufferers, legislators, and people who have never suffered pregnancy loss. Related issues such as infertility and societal pressure to have children will also emerge. The launch will explore these perspectives and issues in what promises to be an educational, entertaining, and uplifting event.
The official book launch of “Lifting the Weight of Miscarriage” will take place on 23rd November 2021 at the Antioch Baptist Church in Lime Kiln Commercial Development at 6:00 p.m. Books will be available for sale (EC$35.00) and signing by the author.
