“Know Your Status”

Minister of Health, the Honourable Eugene Hamilton has encouraged the general public to know their status and get tested for HIV.

He made the call at a leader testing forum at the Solid Waste Management Corporation conference room on Tuesday.

Minister Hamilton said there is still a high rate of persons who are not aware of their HIV status and data collected by the Pan American Health Organization shows that more women get tested than men.

He, therefore, encouraged men to get tested.

The minister reflected on the 2017 achievement of the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis and said that the ministry continues to “build out infrastructure regarding all diseases.”

On December 1, World AIDS Day marked the 30th anniversary of its observance in the global community.

It was commemorated under the theme “Know Your Status.”
