Labour Minister Amory Calls for Improved Workforce

(ZIZ News) – The number of labour officers in St. Kitts is expected to increase as government works to promote improved relations between employees and employers in the interest of national development.

Minister of Labour in the Federal Government, the Hon. Vance Amory said these officers will be responsible for ensuring both employers and employees are treated fairly.

“The key is to have good labour relations; good working conditions. We are now working on the matter of expanding or increasing the number of labour officers because we want to be able to go to every single place of employment and see what the conditions are, ensure that the employers are treating their workers well and that the employees are giving their labour in a way which they should do and demonstrate a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay,” he stated.

Amory, addressing nationals on the “Working for You” programme on ZIZ Radio, this week, said a positive workforce can help attract more foreign direct investment for St. Kitts and Nevis.

“We will be able to show to the world, to show to the people who we try to attract for foreign direct investment, for the people here who are interested in investing to expand their businesses, that we have a quality workforce which will redound to the benefit of their business,” Premier Amory stated.
