Latin Festival Art Show

(ZIZ News) — As part of ongoing activities for Latin Festival 2014, the visual arts took the spotlight on Wednesday at an Art Exhibition at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

Local Artist, Dennis Delaney-Richards was one of the featured artists and a brief ceremony was held to introduce his work.

During a brief opening ceremony, Richards noted the similarities between Kittitian and Spanish works of art.

“I’m happy to be able to blend the Spanish culture and the Kittitian culture because we are all intertwined anyway. You can see it’s not too far apart, the different pieces of art that you are looking at. And I’m happy to be here to perform and to showcase my work,” he said.

Richards also said highlighting local artwork can help establish our identity to visitors.

“It’s so timely being here because we need to educate the public as to what art is about and what we have. Because if you really think about it, if we’re catering towards tourism, the tourist needs to see what we have as a people, as a culture.”

The fifth annual Latin Festival St. Kitts includes workshops, performances and the highlight, the Latin Fiesta on October 26th at the Marriott Beach.
