Leewards chase formidable total as WICB Under 19 Tournament begins
(Sports Page)— Guyana under 19’s batting first on day one, managed a formidable total versus the Leewards under 19’s as the West indies Cricket Board’s under 19 tournament commenced on Tuesday 22nd July.
The Guyanese team lost their first wicket with the score on 20 and at one time were placed at 173 for 6. However, they rallied to an eventual total of 270 all out.
The Leewards’ most successful bowler was the leg spinner Martina who bagged a fiver.
The Leewards in response were off to a stuttering start, losing opening batsman Weste for only one, with Saeed Williams not included in the eleven.
Ross Powell was not out on 14 with nightwatchman Martina, not out on nought.
Interestingly, an earlier press release from the Leewards Board had indicated that Ross Powell had been recommended as captain but the report is that Jeremiah Louis of St.Kitts is the captain of the team.
The Leewards will be hoping for a strong batting performance today Wednesday 23rd July as the match goes into its second day.

Trinidad and Tobago was bowled out for a mere 74 and the windward Islands was on 91 for 2
