Leewards Under 19’s beat Jamaica
(Sports Page)— The Leeward Islands under 19 team completed its first victory of the 2014 regional under 19 tournament in a tense game versus Jamaica, on Monday 28th July.
The Jamaicans who were on 91 for 8, managed to get to 107 before they were bowled out.
That gave the Leeward Islands a victory target of 102, managed to get to the total for the loss of 8 wickets.
The Leewards’ run chase started well, when the two Nevisian left handers in Ross Powell and Saeed Williams moved competently to 43 before they were parted.
After that the Leewards batting struggled and wickets fell at regular intervals.
The captain Jeremiah Louis batted sensibly and when Ross Powell was run out, it seemed like the Jamaicans were in for a real chance. However, Theron Bussue of Nevis batted stubbornly at the end to be nought not out, in support of his captain, who eventually led his team to victory.
