Little Leaguers receive Medals and Commendation

Sports Page — The climax of another year in the history of the little league Baseball program on Nevis occurred on Friday 26th June.

The action took place at the Ramsbury playing field where chief coordinator of the league, Frank Nisbett watched closely as the youthful Baseballers went through their paces.

Even though it was not a competition between schools, the Baseballers who mainly originated from the Charlestown Primary School, competed against each other in terms of demonstrating specific skills

Also on hand and lending a helping hand, was Sports coordinator in the Ministry of Education, Miss Michelle Sutton.

She noted that she was pleased with the efforts of Frank Nisbett and indicated that the children involved in the program were developing nicely and could one day get very far with the game.

She also pointed out that there were scholarship opportunities available in the long run.

Frank Nisbett for his part, applauded the little leaguers for their efforts. He stated that when he originally started the program, he had written to the Education Department and contacted the Primary schools on the island but only Mr. Barrett of the Charlestown Primary school responded at the time.

He is however still very hopeful that other schools will come on board when the sessions recommence.

Nisbett and Sutton then proceeded to award the outstanding players with medals.

The results of the morning’s exercise were as follows:

Kamarley Newton, Lyne Smithen, Jaquan Andrew, Shamaico Calderon, all hit 2 home runs each.

Diquan Liburd and Ovonje Amory hit 1 home run each

All of the participants hit 12 balls.
