Local celebrations for Diamond Jubilee end on Thursday

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 01, 2012 (SKNIS): An Ecumenical Service at the St. George’s Anglican Church will conclude months of celebration in St. Kitts and Nevis marking the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Members of the organizing committee for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee met recently to finalize plans for the Thursday June 07 service which is expected to give praise to and acknowledge God as having kept and guided Her Majesty over the years.

Hymns, musical renditions, passages of scripture readings, and prayer are expected to comprise a brief but historically meaningful event which organizers say will include some of the nation’s top performers.

Government officials, representatives of the private sector, non-governmental organizations and civil society will be present at the service which is open to the general public. It begins at 5:00 p.m.

Commenting on the nearing end of the Diamond Jubilee celebration, a spokesperson for the committee noted the role Britain has played over the centuries and expressed pleasure that St. Kitts and Nevis is part of the Commonwealth of Nations.
