Local footballers and Coach attend Digicel Kickstart Academy in Trinidad

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (November 1st, 2011) – Digicel believes that the game of soccer has a unique way of bringing people together and teaching youth not just about the skills of the beautiful game – but also about valuable life skills like discipline, respect, commitment and teamwork. To this end, four Under 16 footballers travelled to Trinidad today, Tuesday 1st November to attend the Digicel Kickstart Academy. Evansroy Barnes, Wazim Howe, Hasani Flemming and Vinceroy Nelson will receive expert coaching and training under the leadership of top Barclays Premier League coaches from the Sunderland Academy, assisted by England and Liverpool football legend, John Barnes.

During the week-long elite training camp, the Digicel Academy will also host a ‘Coach the Coaches’ seminar in which coaches from across the region will get expert training from Sunderland AFC’s finest teachers. Local football coach Mr. Jeffery Hazel will accompany the boys to Trinidad and will benefit from this seminar. Barnes, Howe, Flemming and Nelson were amongst 35 under 16 footballers who took part in the Digicel Kick Start Clinic, which was held from October 1st to 3rd in St. Kitts. Over the three days of the clinic, John Barnes coached and mentored the under 16 footballers and in the end selected four to attend the Digicel Kickstart Academy.

Digicel St. Kitts and Nevis’ Marketing Manager, Marsha Chatterjee, in wishing the boys and coach a Bon Voyage this morning said, “You have been selected to attend the Digicel Kickstart Academy not only because of your skill, but also the determination, commitment and attitude.” She also encouraged the boys to learn as much while at the Digicel Kickstart Academy and put into practice what they have learned upon their return to the Federation. The boys, along with their parents were very enthusiastic this morning while awaiting their flight to Trinidad. They expressed their thanks to Digicel for affording them this opportunity.

Digicel and the people of St. Kitts and Nevis bid the contingent from St. Kitts a Bon Voyage and wish them well during their stay at the Digicel Kickstart Academy in Trinidad!
