BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 16TH 2011 (CUOPM) – Florida’s leading newspaper The Sun Sentinel says plans for a new private air terminal at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport comes as the twin-island Federation expands and upgrades its tourism industry.

Internationally known journalist, Doreen Hemlock said the eastern Caribbean island of St. Kitts, is planning a new private air terminal at its main airport, with service to begin by 2013.

The new terminal will feature upscale lounges, a business center, offices, a landscaped courtyard and an events center. The cost to build it: about $15 million, including $6 million for its first phase, officials said.

Plans call for construction by London-based Veling Limited, with ownership transferred to the government’s St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) at the end of the concession contract.

“The venture comes as St. Kitts expands and upgrades its tourism offerings, with new hotels and resorts and such attractions as beaches, golf, tennis, casinos, tropical rain forests, a railway connecting sugar plantations and tours of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage site,” wrote Hemlock in the Travel Section of the Sun Sentinel.
