Lord Kut Ruby event a smash

Lord Kut

ZIZ News…April 9, 2013 — Calypso fans in St. Kitts and Nevis were treated to a sensational show over the weekend.

Several well known artistes sang in celebration of Daevon “Lord Kut” Liburd’s 40th Anniversary at a Ruby event at the Paddock in Newtown.

The show got off to a great start with performances from Alonye and Sani Gordon, two sons of Lord Kut. They were followed by King Mosei — a Kittitian living in New York. Calypso Monarch who sang as well as played host for the night delivered a consistent performance.

Lord Kut’s appearance on stage signalled the second phase of the show for the night. He belted out hit after hit for more than an hour.

After giving Lord Kut a standing ovation, the crowd remained standing for the appearance of ten-time Calypso Monarch King Ellie Matt who gave his first major performance in the federation for a number of years.

Passionate and emotional fans sang and danced to a repertoire of calypsos made popular by Ellie Matt over a sustained period throughout the past four decades.

Sound for the night was provided by ZIZ’s popular DJ Ronnie Rascal’s Asylum Sound while stage and lighting was coordinated by S and I Lighting. Grandmasters accompanied the calypsonians and reigning Road March Champions, Small Axe, climaxed the night of tribute with popular renditions.

Five of the six contestants for the 2013 Mother’s Day pageant on May 25 also made an appearance at the show.
