Lower Electricity Bills?

ZIZ NEWS, 10TH June 2013 — Few months ago the government and The St. Kitts Electricity Company announced that they would be restructuring the electricity rates thanks to an SIDF subsidy.

ZIZ’s Jason Davis spoke to persons on the street to find out if they’re feeling the savings.

The new pricing structure was expected to lower the bills for over half of the population.

Earlier this week Energy Minister the Hon Dr Earl Martin announced that almost sixteen thousand households saved about 50 dollars each.

That’s a total of over seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

We went out into the streets to find out of the people are seeing the savings.

We also caught up with SKELEC P.R.O. Gawain Fraits and asked him if they’re seeing a difference in customers’ electricity bills.

He says if you are seeing a saving that doesn’t mean you should burn more electricity.

Overall the response from the public was mixed and SKELEC themselves say it’s too early to see any significant savings from the new pricing structure so they’ll have to wait and see what happens in the coming months.
