Marella Explorer II Makes Inaugural Visit to St. Kitts

BASSETERRE (30TH November, 2019): St. Kitts held a special welcome for the cruise ship Marella Explorer II on its inaugural call to the island.

Belonging to the Thompson Holidays cruise line, the Marella Explorer II arrived with a maximum capacity of 2,669 passengers, and is scheduled to make a total of 11 calls to the island.

CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Racquel Brown, led a delegation of stakeholders onboard the ship to participate in a plaque exchange ceremony to commemorate the inaugural event. The CEO extended a very warm welcome to the crew and passengers, when she presented a plaque to Captain Kostas Lampropoulos.

Captain Kostas Lampropoulos said his passengers have an interest in culture and heritage, and are keen on exploring the island.

CEO Brown noted that St. Kitts is a truly blessed cruise destination, possessing sites of the highest recreational and heritage value.

“Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park and The St. Kitts Scenic Railway are two attractions that cannot be matched in this region in terms of uniqueness and historical value,” CEO Brown said. “And, the availability of numerous other island-styled attractions have helped position St. Kitts as one of the preferred cruise destinations of the Caribbean.”

Marella Explorer II is the sister ship to Marella Explorer, and is reserved for adults only. The ship has a range of restaurants, a Champneys Spa and Indigo – a chic bar-club-casino space. The ship caters to couples, singles and groups of friends who enjoy home comforts, with some luxury extras.

St. Kitts has become widely recognized as one of the top cruise destinations in the Caribbean. The destination exceeded one million cruise passengers arrival for the first time in 2018, and then did it again in 2019, becoming the only destination in the OECS to ever achieve the consecutive milestone.

St. Kitts now enjoys marquee port status, a category, typically only much larger destinations enjoy.
