Min of Health Reminds of Sexual Responsibility During Music Fest

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 28, 2013 (SKNIS): With Music Festival in full swing, Health Educators in the National AIDS Secretariat are encouraging persons to know their HIV status and not partake in any risky behaviour.

This is among the advice being given by Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) Providers who are stationed at a booth at the Circus, Basseterre carrying out testing and counseling as part of the Regional HIV Testing Day, today June 28.

Health Educator at the National AIDS Secretariat Juletta Fyfield explained to the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service that the event is a collaborative effort between the Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership on HIV and AIDS (CBMP), the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP), the Bank of Nova Scotia and the Ministries of Health in participating countries.

Ms. Fyfield noted that the regional initiative complements national efforts and assists in achieving the goals of knowing one’s HIV status as well as increasing the number of persons who can both assess their risk and develop a plan to reduce it. She added that it also highlights the multi-sectoral response to HIV/AIDS where various societal partners come together to address key issues.
