Ministry Announces Midterm Break for Schools
Basseterre: St. Kitts, May 13, 2021: Addressing citizens of the twin island Federation on May 14, Minister of Education, Honourable Jonel Powell, revealed that all government educational institutions including, early childhood centres, primary and secondary schools received a two-day midterm break, from Thursday May 20th to Friday May 21, 2021.
This break according to Minister Powell is done so as to prevent staff burn out during what has been a very challenging year in light of additional requirements brough on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Our officers in these facilities have gone beyond the accustomed call of duty and we [Ministry of Education] would like to ensure that there would not be ‘burn out’ among them. To, this end, we have decided to allow all Government Early Childhood Centres and all Government Primary and Secondary Schools a two-day midterm break”, he said.
Minister Powell thanked the teachers for their continued commitment in ensuring that the nation’s youths continue to receive a formal education.
“It is important for me to place on record, my tremendous gratitude to all the committed teachers who have been providing meaningful education to the nation’s children. Teachers are the Ministry of Education’s frontline workers who continue to serve admirably despite the impact of the Covid-19 global pandemic.”
The Ministry of Education remains steadfast in its support of teachers’ and students’ welfare.
