Ministry of Agriculture on Nevis Observes World Food Day 2018

The Ministry of Agriculture on Nevis has joined with United Nations member countries to observe World Food Day 2018.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) celebrates World Food Day each year on the 16th October to commemorate the founding of the organization in 1945.

While delivering an address to mark World Food Day celebrations, Minister of Agriculture on Nevis, Hon. Alexis Jeffers said his ministry is encouraging farmers to use more protective farming methods.

The agriculture minister the used the opportunity to highlight the benefits of integrating new practices.

Minister Jeffers said that Nevis is also placing focus on intensive farming and noted that the general public also has a part to play in the promotion of sustainable lifestyles.

World Food Day events are organized in over 150 countries annually across the world, making it one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar.

This year, World Food Day is being observed under the theme, “Our Actions are Our Future”.
