Ministry of Education Receives Education Supplies from the Virgin Islands

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS) — At a recent ceremony held at the Irish Town Primary School, a number of Mathematics books and school supplies were handed over to the Ministry of Education by son of the soil Dr. Simon Jones Hendrickson.

Dr. Hendrickson, Dean of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), has been carrying out this exercise over a number of years to give back to the country where he was born.

Addressing the children, he stated that this was a gift from not only him but the people of the Virgin Islands.

“As you grow older, we hope that the supplies which we have given you and the books you are going to read will help you to in your development,” he said.

He also thanked the Ministry of Education for allowing him to assist in this endeavour.

Chief Education Officer Clarice Cotton stated that the Ministry appreciates the gesture. She added that even though he does not live on the island “he has not forgotten that he came from St. Kitts so he wants to give back to the children.”

She stated that schools throughout St. Kitts will use the tools to make learning even more effective.
