Monkey Task Force
Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 21, 2020 (ZIZ News): The Department Of Agriculture is stepping up efforts to tackle the problems of monkeys destroying crops with the formation of a Monkey Task Force.
According to Director Of Agriculture, Melvin James the task force will be made up of various stakeholders who will brainstorm ways to deal with the damage being done by monkeys.
He said a preliminary survey among farmers indicates that the monkeys have been destroying a wide variety of crops.
He also noted that in the course of a year the monkeys have destroyed about 100 metric tons of food.
The efforts to tackle monkeys and other pests are part of a multi-million dollar project funded by the government and according to Mr. James includes the building of a monkey house, electric fences, and scarecrows.
