More Info on Moratorium

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 1, 2020 (ZIZ News): The St. Kitts Electricity Company is reminding persons who have signed up for their payment moratorium that they are still encouraged to not completely neglect their bill but pay something towards the amount if possible.

During The Daily Covid-19 Briefing on Thursday, General Manager of SKELEC, Jomo Williams pointed out that the moratorium only delays the due date for payment for three months but customers are urged to pay what they can during that period.

“Please note that this does not mean that customers are not expected to pay,” he said. “But rather they are not expected to make payments until the moratorium ends. Customers who qualify for the moratorium must note the following: the next payment due for the March bill, which must be paid on or before July 2020. If possible customers are urged to make payments from April to June.”

He said after the moratorium ends customers must make arrangements with SKELEC to bring their accounts up to date.

He urged persons financially impacted by Covid-19 to sign up for the payment moratorium and explained the key documents needed to do so.

“Applicants must show proof of financial impact due to the economic fallout of Covid-19 by providing a letter from their employer confirming such impact. Customers can also submit documentation proving self-employment within the tourism or other affected sector,” he said.

Customers should email their name, account number, and documents showing proof of financial impact to customerservice@skelec.kn as well as complete the deferred payment form on the website skelec.kn or call the customer service line at 465-2000.
