More than 100 Students Receive Taiwan Scholarships

NigelCarty-3(ZIZ News)– The Ministry of Education and the Taiwanese Embassy have come together to give several deserving students a jump start in their academic life.

170 students were awarded on Wednesday at the annual Monetary Taiwanese Scholarship Ceremony at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium.

The awards are presented to students from various primary and high schools and colleges in the Federation and are based on academic performance and financial need.

Minister of Education Hon. Nigel Carty said this is a testament to the strong relationship with Taiwan.

“Over the last thirty years, we have witnessed real change in our countries and our people and this come largely from the positive working relationship between our two countries…We have seen year after year, an improvement in our relationship and improvements for our people,” he explained.

Resident Taiwanese Ambassador, His Excellency Miguel Tsao said this scholarship programme is of significant importance to his Embassy.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Dr Denzil Douglas encouraged students to take advantage of every opportunity given to them to learn and not waste any time.

“I want you to resist the temptation to put off for tomorrow work that you should be doing today. I want to say to you further, do not be intimidated by subjects that are so called “boring” or “difficult”. Instead understand that all learning expands your development as a human being,” he advised.

The scholarships presented amounted to a total of US$100,000.
