More Than $7 Million Paid Out So Far To Former SSMC Employees

(ZIZ News) – Since Friday, $7,702,609 has been paid out to approximately 1,338 former workers of the St. Kitts Sugar Manufacturing Corporation [SSMC].

This, as the EC$16 million gratuitous payment continues at the Sugar Workers Restoration Fund Secretariat in Basseterre.

By the time our cameras stopped by the secretariat Thursday afternoon, the crowd had reduced drastically to just about a score of persons waiting on the outside.

We spoke with Pond Extension Resident Ivy Browne who had just received her cheque. Browne said she worked with the SSMC for approximately 50 years.

She also expressed her gratitude to everyone who made the cheque distribution process possible.

There is no set date for when the cheque distribution would end.
