National Bank Launches CenPOS Technology

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 10th May, 2013 – St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Limited (National Bank) introduces CenPOS technology to St. Kitts & Nevis. CenPOS is an intelligent payment-processing network that uses state-of-the-art technology to enhance the card acceptance process across multiple payment channels. This technology is the first of its kind in the Federation. CenPOS is a secure, cloud-based, multi-channel, payment solution that improves the payment experience for both businesses and consumers and allows businesses to accept payments from anywhere at any time, including physical terminals (with signature capture capabilities), online payment portals, electronic commerce, electronic bill payments and mobile payments via cell phones and or tablet devices using the CenPOS mobile application. .

With the aid of a card reader attached to smartphone or tablet (Apple IOS or Android devices), card payments can now be securely accepted anywhere and at any time. Merchants can execute a wide range of transactions including, sale, authorization, void and return. National Bank expects that many merchants, including small business owners that previously did not accept card payments such as taxi drivers, farmers, market vendors and local food vendors, will be eager to avail themselves of this technology. Just three of the many benefits include: choice of payment options for merchants’ customers, enhanced security by not having to deal with cash and the eliminated risk of returned cheques.

The CenPOS platform provides an Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment (EBPP) platform, enables merchants to send automated invoices and payment requests via email or SMS messages which the customer can pay easily, eliminating the costs associated with traditional paper based billing. EBPP facilitates a much less costly and more efficient bill payment and collections process.

Users of CenPOS technology will experience real time processing, reduced fraud, superior reporting capabilities, electronic signature capture and electronic storage and retrieval of signed receipts. Merchant customers can make payments with debit or credit cards and will receive customized receipts instantly via email. Retailers will have the ability to capture signatures electronically by having the customer sign on their terminals in store or on their CenPOS-enabled mobile device.

“We have been very impressed by what CenPOS brings to the market and are excited to launch their rich product suite to our customers. A vigorous marketing campaign has been organized as we believe CenPOS will change the face of accepting payments for all kinds of merchants.” said Mrs. Bernice Grant-Kelly, Assistant Managing Director, BankCards Division.

“We are delighted to partner with St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla-National Bank Limited to bring our state-of-the art payment processing technology to the region”, said Mr. Jorge Fernandez, CenPOS Co-founder and Chairman. “Our world-class payment-processing offering compliments the bank’s initiatives and commitment to bring the best-in-breed payment technology solutions to the Federation and the OECS”, added Mr. Fernandez.

We are certain that this innovation will enhance the acceptance experience for both merchants and Visa cardholders, contributing to extend the value of electronic payments”, expressed Lorna Atiles, Executive Director for Visa Inc.
