National Bank St. Thomas Trinity Football League off to a great start

Sports Page—Tuesday 3rd September 2013– Following the Official Opening ceremony and parade of teams of the National Bank sponsored St. Thomas-Trinity Football League ten of the eleven registered teams have played their first encounter. However, before the teams took to the field a brief but significant ceremony was held. On hand to declare the league open was Minister of Sports and Parliamentary Representative for the area Hon. Glenn Phillip who told the players that they must be discipline in order to have a successful competition before wishing all the teams well. This year the league is featuring teams from Challengers to as far as St. Paul’s. President of the league Benjamin Thomas told the gathering that his association is very grateful to the contributions of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank for yet again been on board to sponsor the league that comprises of eleven teams. The results of the matches played this past weekend are as follows:

Travel world Jets defeated Half Way Tree who returned after a few years of absence by 3 goals to 2. Vallen Rogers scored one goal for jets while his team mate Miguel Crawford netted twice. Half Way Tree’s goals came from captain Charles Thomas and Raheem Searles. The second match on Saturday saw 23 Skills getting the best of Ghetto stars 3-2. The goal scorers for the winners were Rico Gumbs with 2 and Azeem James 1. Keithroy Freeman scored both goals for Ghettostars.

In Sundays matches, defending champions Challengers FC started their defense of the title when they defeated Lamberts 3 nil with 2 goals coming from the boot of Javier Sutton and one by Anthony Grant. Falcons went down to African Rocks who won 2-1. Rocks was led by Jervain Davis and Anthony Caines. Jahdarnie Browne scored the lone goal for Falcons.

Youth and Experience of St. Paul’s won handsomely having defeated Middle Island United 3-1 with 2 goals coming from Junior Freeman and 1 by Omar Francis. Travis Rennix was the lone goal scorer for MI. Matches continue from Tuesday at Verchilds.
