NATIONAL Sponsors the History and Heritage Primary School Quiz

ZIZ News…March 1, 2012 — National Bank Marketing Manager Patricia Wilkinson, presented a cheque in the amount of $5,000 to Leonard Stapleton, Operations Manager of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society. The cheque is in support of this year’s Primary Schools Quiz, one of the signature activities of the annual History and Heritage Week. The History and Heritage Week of activities is an initiative of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society.

Eighteen schools in St. Kitts participated in the first phase of the Quiz in which a record number of 12 students gained full points. Twelve schools, namely Bronte Welsh, Cayon, Deane Glasford, Dieppe Bay, Edgar T. Morris, Estridge, Joshua O. Williams, Saddlers, Sandy Point, Seventh Day Adventist, St. Pauls, and Tyrell Williams advanced to the second phase.

The History and Heritage Quiz is based on the comprehensive primary school Social Studies syllabus which includes Geography, Civics, History, Culture, Sports and Festivals. Five schools will advance to the final round of competition which will take place at 8:15 pm on Thursday March 1, 2012, and will be broadcast live on ZIZ Radio and TV.

Sponsorship of the Primary School Quiz gave NATIONAL yet another opportunity to pay homage to the mission of the History and Heritage Week, which is, “to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the history and diverse heritage of St. Kitts and Nevis, thereby cultivating a stronger sense of national identity and personal pride”. The sponsorship also serves to encourage all citizens to reflect upon and celebrate our history, culture and heritage and persuade our fellow corporate citizens to contribute to this worthy effort.

Mr. Stapleton, in expressing the Committee’s deep appreciation for the sponsorship, commended NATIONAL for its committed role in fostering national pride and For advancing social development.
