Navigator captures his first crown at the ZIZ/LIME Calypso Show

ZIZ News…March 27, 2011 – The celebration of a significant moment in the history of broadcasting came to a high point on Saturday night when a young man from Sandy Point captured the ZIZ/LIME 50th Anniversary Crown at Carnival Village.

The King Navigator scored over three hundred points to win the right to be called the only 50th anniversary King when he out sang eleven other competitors in the Calypso Competition.

He appeared on stage in the number one position singing the song “Fifty Years” which really captured the hearts of the huge audience and the judges.

The Fist runner up spot went to Hollywood out of Nevis and the second runner up was Quantash.

King Navigator was crowned by the Minister with responsibility for information and Education the Hon. Nigel Carty assisted by the reigning National Carnival Queen Iantavian Queely.

Plaques were presented to the other competitors in honor of their contribution to the show. The side show saw some splendid performances by veteran calypsonians King Meeko out of Nevis and legendary St. Kitts own De King Arrow who sang songs such as Judge Dread, Arise and Christmas Pains and brought back lots of memories of the past.

Among the officials attending the show were the Governor General his Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, Deputy Prime Minister the Hon Sam Condor who presented a commemorative Plaque to the King Arrow and other Senior government officials.

Many persons also called the Management of ZIZ Radio thanking them for the opportunity to see the King Arrow perform live for the first time in their lives and to commend the calypsonians and guest artistes for a job well done. The Board, Management and staff of ZIZ Radio would like to thank the fans of ZIZ for coming out in their numbers to what was one of the best shows to be held at Carnival Village.
