Nevis defeats Anguilla in LICA Tournament

ZIZ News…June 20, 2012 — Nevis stuttered momentarily on the final day in the quest of a victory target of 172 runs versus Anguilla on the final day, Tuesday.

What was 113 for 3 overnight, quickly changed to 117 for 5 with the wickets of Andre Browne, quickly followed by that of Akito Willet. The Anguillians were suddenly bubbling in the field. They now sensed an unlikely chance at victory.

In the post match interview conducted with NTV sports, Chaka Hodge, the Anguillan captain praised the Nevis team for being the better team during the match and singled out some of his young guards for special commendation: Shane Burton, Lyndel Richardson and Yannick Leonard.

Victorious captain, Javia Liburd counted the win as giving Nevis 3 and 0, incidentally counting the points from the Antigua game which was not played. In looking forward to the St. Kitts game, he felt that Nevis would take care of the St. Kitts batting line up as he paid scant regard to the fact that they had made over 600 runs versus Anguilla. He was quick to point out: “The Anguilla team dropped about thirty catches. We don’t plan to do that.

Young Duan Webbe, for his part was pleased to score his first half century at this level. “I was glad that I was able to make my first half century at this level and I thank all the people who supported me,’ he said.

Nevis engages St. Kitts at the ET Willet Park, starting this coming Friday 22nd June.
