Nevis’ Disaster Management Minister says be resilient and climate smart during 2019 Hurricane Season

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 4, 2019 (ZIZ News): Deputy Premier of Nevis and Minister responsible for Disaster Management on Nevis, Hon. Alexis Jeffers is urging all citizens and residents of Nevis to be resilient and climate smart during the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
The Deputy Premier was at the time delivering an address to mark the start of the season on Saturday June 1 2019.
He also went on to reassure the public that the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) is engaging in comprehensive disaster management.
He said it is important for all person’s to review their family’s emergency plan to back check the locations of emergency shelters, a suitable water supply, enforcement of a family disaster plan and emergency contact lists of police stations, Fire and Rescue Services, healthcare facilities and Disaster Management Departments.
The Disaster Management Minister said he will continuously urge residents, citizens, government agencies and business entities to be extremely decisive in safeguarding lives and property and use experience from Hurricanes Irma and Maria as reminders.
The Atlantic Hurricane season begins on the 1st of June and runs until the 30th of November annually.
The Deputy Premier advised the public to continue paying close attention to public advisories issued by the St. Kitts and Nevis Meteorological Offices, the National Emergency Management Agency and other related agencies as the season progresses.
