Nevis’ former premier calls for persons to be good citizens

HonJosephParryB(ZIZ News) — Former Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry, is calling for the nation’s citizens to demonstrate honesty, decency, hard work and independence.

Parry, Nevis’ representative for the St. Thomas’ parish, told the nation on Tuesday morning that nationals of St. Kitts-Nevis need to be good citizens.

“We need to learn to support our country as a nation. We need to be proud as a nation. We must not go around like something is wrong with St. Kitts and Nevis and we want to be an English man or an American or Canadian. We must want to be a member, a citizen, a patriot of St. Kitts-Nevis. All these things are absolutely important and we need to understand what it is to be a good citizen.”

Parry is also of the view that great emphasis needs to be placed on education. He said when people are exposed to education they can make more informed decisions about the leaders who surround them.

“The people of the country, having been educated, need to be able to examine those who aspire to political positions and deal with them when they step out of a line, deal with them when they try to use them..misuse them, deal with them when they show that they are power hungry, deal with them when they say that they have no plans and all they can do is oppose.”
