Nevis Team Off To Montserrat

Sports Page—Friday 12th July 2013–There is some good news for Nevis Cricket and especially for Cricket lovers on Nevis. After the drama at the ET Willet Park last week when the ST. Kitts and Nevis senior teams showed up for a Leeward Islands fixture game and the umpires were a no show, Leeward Islands cricket action resumes this weekend with the Nevis team leaving for Montserrat sometime after 3 am this morning via the MV Caribe Queen.

President of the Nevis Cricket Association, Keith Scarborough indicated that it was not the ideal situation required as the cricketers will have to suit up for their game versus Montserrat, several hours after the boat ride. The game is due to commence at 10 am.

After that match, the Nevis team will journey over to Antigua via the same boatto engage Anguilla there.

Scarborough noted that the Nevis Island Administration must be heartily thanked for the sponsorship of the team’s trip to Montserrat and Antigua.

‘If we did not receive that assistance, we would not have been able to send the team,’ he said. ‘The Association is broke, broke,’ he lamented.

The team that has travelled to Montserrat reads:

Tonito Willet-capt; Duan Phillip; Kejel Tyson; Lornel Dore; Daynason Browne; Akito Willet; Adelvin Phillip;Justin Athanaze; Philo Wallace; Nelson Boland; JasonCampbell; Wasim Mintos and Alex Williams. The Coach is Gerard TRINI Charles and the Manager is Patrick Newton.

Vice-Captain Javia Liburd is expected to join the team for the Antigua leg of the trip. Philo Wallace has replaced the injured Ian Byron. Duan Phillip will keep wicket as Dymon Parris has been called up for Leeward Islands under 19 duty. Kieran Powell did not make the trip.
