Nevis Track Team Places Fourth in Anguilla

ZIZ Sports…May 24 2011 – The Nevis junior track and field team returned to Nevis yesterday 23rd May to a grand reception at the Charlestown pier. Included in the welcoming party were: The Hon Hensley Daniel-Minister of Sports; Hon Carlylse Powell; Wakeley Daniel -Vice President of the NAAA and Owner/Manager of the Gladiators track club and Alstead Pemberton-Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports.

A brief ceremony chaired by Wakeley Daniel was held on the Charlestown pier. Minister Daniel congratulated the athletes for giving of their best and for copping some twenty medals in total: Three golds; six silver and eleven bronze.

President of the NAAA, Lester Blackett who travelled with the team, also gave an overview of the team’s performance. He had special praise for Sadiki Tyson who was the overall star of the Nevis team getting 26 points and placing fourth in the meet standings.

The NAAA later issued the following press release:

“The Nevis team returned to Nevis from a fairly successful Leeward Islands Track & Field Youth Championships held in Anguilla over the weekend of 21st/22nd May 2011. Nevis placed fourth overall with 243 points behind hosts Anguilla with 387.5 points, British Virgin Islands with 456.5 points and repeat Champions St. Kitts with 505.5 points. Team Nevis also placed third in the male category with 157 points and fifth in the female category with 86 points. Other teams included Antigua with 208 points, U.S. Virgin Islands with 60.5 points, Montserrat with 60 points and Dutch St. Maarten with 16 points.
