New Attorney General says its ‘an honour to serve’

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 29TH 2013 (CUOPM) – Newly appointed Attorney General, the Hon. Jason Hamilton said Monday it is “an honour and a privilege to be afforded the opportunity to serve my country in this capacity.”

“Most lawyers of my age would have seen (former Premier, Sir) Lee Moore as the attorney general at some point and would want to emulate the man at this stage in his career and I am honoured to be afforded this opportunity,” said Mr. Hamilton in brief remarks after he was administered the Oaths of Office and Allegiance as Attorney General by Resident Judge His Lordship Mr. Justice Errol Thomas in the presence of His Excellency the Governor General Sir Edmund Lawrence, Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Members of the Cabinet and family members.

Mr. Hamilton, the Federation’s fifth Attorney General post Independence, expressed thanks to the Cabinet for their support and confidence.

Mr. Hamilton obtained the Bachelor of Laws degree with honours at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in 1999 and the Certificate of Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica in 2001 and is a former President & Founding Member of Eastern Caribbean & Belizean Students Association and Sports Coordinator of the Law Society.

He was Junior Partner in Hamilton and Company since 2001 and appeared as barrister at law in the Magistrate’s Court, High Court and Court of Appeal in both criminal and civil proceedings, responsible for preparation of pre trial and trial documentation and general management of partnership operations particularly human resource management.

Mr. Hamilton also served as a member of the Electoral Commission of the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association; Chairman, Election Appeals Tribunal of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association; Management Team/Legal Counsel of Nu Vybes International; Legal Consultant, St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee; Legal Consultant, the National Carnival Committee and (ECTEL) in St. Lucia.

He is also a former Vice President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Basketball Association, Manager of the Hitters Basketball Club, Treasurer of the Superstars Football Club, President of Villagers in Action and a member of the St. Kitts Scouts Council.
