New cruise ship pier completion date moved to November 2019

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 23, 2019 (ZIZ News): The St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority has announced a new date for the completion of the second cruise pier.

According to a statement from SCASPA the pier is expected to be completed on November 8.

Construction at Port Zante, was undertaken on a Government to Government arrangement between The Canadian Government and the Government of St Kitts and Nevis .

It began in March 2018, with completion initially scheduled for September 23, 2019.

According to a release from SCASPA on Wednesday work was interrupted in September following the passage of Tropical Storm Dorian .

The release also stated that damage was also done “further south of the Federation resulting in significant damage to three on-site operating badges. The damage to these badges consequently delayed completion time for the second cruise ship pier.”

SCASPA informed that swift measures were immediately taken by the contractor to secure a replacement barge to complete the work and also confirmed that a barge has since been secured and is currently en-route to St. Kitts from the U.S.

The second cruise pier project will officially be completed on November to accommodate the 2019/2020 Cruise Season.
