New Jamaica ambassador to OAS presents Credentials

Washington (CMC) — Jamaica’s New Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) Ambassador Ralph Thomas, on Wednesday presented his credentials to Secretary General Luis Almagro.

During a ceremony at OAS headquarters here, Thomas underscored Jamaica´s commitment to the “principles and objectives of the OAS, including the promotion of democracy, the protection of human rights, the maintenance of peace and security, and the advancement of sustainable development throughout the hemisphere.”

It said Thomas pledged to work together with the Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General and other representatives to ensure that the OAS “fulfills the objectives outlined in the Strategic Vision for a more effective and responsive organization.”

Almagro highlighted the prominent role played by Jamaica in the Americas and expressed confidence that Jamaica’s leadership role would continue.

Thomas, who assumed duties earlier this month, replaced Professor Stephen Vasciannie, who opted not to renew his contract.
