New judge sworn in

(ZIZ News) — A new High Court judge has been sworn in.

At a brief ceremony at Government House on Tuesday morning, Trevor M. Ward Q.C. was sworn in by Governor General His Excellency Sir Tapley Seaton, GCMG, CVO, QC, JP.

During the ceremony QC Ward took the Oaths of Allegiance and the Oath of Office.

The Governor General welcomed Queen’s Counsel Ward to the Federation and noted that the country is pleased to have a person of his calibre within the justice system.

“The role of a High Court judge is a very important one in our system and so certainly we welcome your contribution. We’ve seen your excellent record of achievement in terms of your past undertakings; both in Trinidad and Tobago and the Cayman Islands. And certainly we look forward to your contribution to our jurisprudential development,” he said.

Mr Ward said he’s happy to be on board and promised to perform to the best of his abilities.

“I am delighted to be in the Federation. I can assure the community that I intend to dispense justice impartially and with integrity and I look forward to being of service to the residents and citizens of the Federation,” he said.

Queen’s Counsel Ward succeeds Her Ladyship Justice Marlene Carter, who resigned as High Court Judge on August 15.
